A Taste of American Pie :: Ethnicity Mexican American Essays

A Taste of American Pie Sunday morning. The smell of flour tortillas warming on the kitchen oven would float right to my room. I could hear the radio play scratchy ranchera tunes to which my mom consistently appeared to know the words. In the event that I lay long enough in bed, my mom would stroll in the room and attempt to wake me up, falling back on singing my name or an old Spanish nursery rhyme if all else fizzled. Ask me where home is, and I'll disclose to you simply this. This is home. This is me. All I've at any point known is Mexican culture. Both of my folks were conceived in Mexico, and I myself have never lived in excess of a couple of hours from the fringe. I've never known a Christmas without tamales or a September 16 th without festivity. Be that as it may, I am not simply Mexican. I am Mexican-American. Mã ©xico might be home, yet America is the place I live. I find here in school that I am simply starting to realize being American. I used to imagine that I would locate that significance th rough such a duality; anything that wasn't Mexican or some portion of the minority would need to be American. Unexpectedly, the possibility of Americanness was nearer to home. I've come to understand that to be American is to know and offer myself. America is a combination of numerous societies. In that capacity, it has no single, unmistakable culture. There is nobody all-encompassing American culture that is autonomous of each one of those that make it up. The alleged mixture of people groups isn't actually a precise depiction of America. This country is specked with social enclaves that sustain their own traditions and customs as opposed to intertwine them with others. I, for one, would not surrender my Mexican character to turn out to be just American. I am certain that many would concur that we are altogether more than American. Each culture, hence, remains on a very basic level one of a kind, never truly liquefying into another. To call yourself American is to perceive that you are a little, but essential, some portion of a more prominent wonder.

Stefan’s Diaries Bloodlust Chapter 5~6 Free Essays

Part 5 After a day, the train shrieked to a stop. â€Å"Baton Rouge!† a conductor brought out yonder. We were drawing nearer to New Orleans, however the time was crawling by a long shot too gradually for my preferring. We will compose a custom paper test on Stefan’s Diaries: Bloodlust Chapter 5~6 or on the other hand any comparable point just for you Request Now I smoothed my options exhausted of the vehicle, seeing travelers hurriedly getting together their having a place as they arranged to abandon their quarters, when my eye fell upon a green ticket, decorated with an enormous boot print. I bowed down and picked it up.Mr. Remy Picard, Richmond to New Orleans. I tucked it into my pocket and cheerfully strolled back through the train, until I felt somebody looking at me inquisitively. I pivoted. Two sisters were grinning at me through the window of a private compartment, their demeanors distracted. One was taking a shot at a bit of needlepoint, the other writing in a cowhide bound journal. They were being watched with sell like power by a short, full lady in her sixties, clad in all dark, in all probability their auntie or gatekeeper. I opened the entryway. â€Å"Sir?† the lady stated, moving in the direction of me. I bolted my look onto her watery blue eyes. â€Å"I trust you left something in the eating car,† I said. â€Å"Something you need.† I kept, replicating Damons low, consistent voice. Her eyes moved, however I detected this was not quite the same as the manner in which the conductor had reacted to my words. At the point when Id attempted to constrain the conductor, maybe my contemplations had slammed into steel; here, it was just as my musings were getting through haze. She positioned her head, plainly tuning in. â€Å"I left something † She trailed off, sounding confounded. Be that as it may, I could detect something in my cerebrum, a kind of merging of our psyches, and I knew she wouldnt battle me. Promptly, the lady moved her build and stood up from her seat. â€Å"Why, ah, I trust I did,† she stated, pivoting suddenly and strolling down the lobby without a regressive look. The metallic entryway of the vehicle shut with a tick, and I pulled the overwhelming naval force blinds over the little window to the passageway. â€Å"Nice to make your acquaintance,† I said as I bowed to the two young ladies. â€Å"My name is Remy Picard,† I stated, clandestinely looking down at the ticket jabbing out of my front pocket. â€Å"Remy,† the taller young lady rehashed unobtrusively, as though submitting my name to memory. I felt my teeth throb against my gums. I was so eager, and she was so lovely I crushed my lips together and constrained myself to stand still. Not yet. â€Å"Finally! Auntie Minnies never left us alone!† the more established young lady said. She appeared to be around sixteen. â€Å"She thinks we arent to be trusted.† â€Å"Arent you now?† I prodded, slipping into the tease as the commendations and reactions volleyed to and fro. As a human, I would have trusted such a trade would end with a press of the hand or a brush of lips against a cheek. Presently, everything I could consider was the blood flowing through the young ladies veins. I plunked down close to the more seasoned young lady, the more youthful ones eyes looking through me inquisitively. She possessed a scent like gardenias and bread simply out of the stove. Her sisterâ€they probably been sisters, with the equivalent brownish earthy colored hair and shooting blue eyesâ€smelled more extravagant, similar to nutmeg and newly fallen leaves. â€Å"Im Lavinia, and this is Sarah Jane. Were going to move to New Orleans,† the one young lady stated, putting her needlepoint down on her lap. â€Å"Do you know it? Im stressed Ill miss Richmond horribly,† she said mournfully. â€Å"Our daddy died,† Sarah Jane included, her lower lip trembling. I gestured, running my tongue along my teeth, feeling my teeth. Lavinias heart was thumping far quicker than her sisters. â€Å"Aunt Minnie needs to wed me off. Will you let me know whats it like, Remy?† Lavinia highlighted the ring on my fourth finger. Much to her dismay that the ring had nothing to do with marriage and everything to do with having the option to chase young ladies like her visible to everyone. â€Å"Being wedded is flawless, on the off chance that you meet the correct man. Do you think youll meet the privilege man?† I asked, gazing at her. â€Å"I I dont know. I assume on the off chance that hes anything like you, at that point I should tally myself lucky.† Her breath was hot on my cheek, and I realized that I couldnt control myself for any longer. â€Å"Sarah Jane, I wager your aunt needs some help,† I stated, looking into Sarah Janes blue eyes. She briefly stopped, at that point pardoned herself and went to discover her auntie. I had no clue on the off chance that I was convincing her or on the off chance that she was basically following my requests, since she was a youngster and I was a grown-up. â€Å"Oh, youre devilish, arent you?† Lavinia asked, her eyes blazing as she grinned at me. â€Å"Yes,† I said bluntly. â€Å"Yes, I am evil, my dear.† I exposed my teeth, viewing with extraordinary fulfillment as her eyes extended with frightfulness. The best piece of taking care of was the expectation, seeing my casualty trembling, helpless, mine. I gradually inclined in, enjoying the experience. My lips brushed her delicate skin. â€Å"No!† she panted. â€Å"Shhh,† I murmured, pulling her closer and permitting my teeth to contact her skin, unpretentiously from the start, at that point all the more unyieldingly, until I sank my teeth into her neck. Her groans became shouts, and I held my hand over her mouth to quiet her as I sucked the sweet fluid into my mouth. She moaned somewhat, yet soon her murmurs transformed into kittenish mews. â€Å"New Orleans, next stop!† the conductor shouted, breaking my dream. I looked out the window. The sun was sinking low into the sky, and Lavinias about dead body felt overwhelming in my arms. Outside the window, New Orleans ascended as though in a fantasy, and I could see the sea proceeding endlessly until the end of time. It resembled my life was bound to be: endless years, endless feedings, endless beautiful young ladies with sweet moans and better blood. â€Å"Forever gasping, and perpetually young,† I murmured, satisfied at how well the lines from the artist Keats fit my new life. â€Å"Sir!† The conductor thumped on the entryway. I walked out of the compartment, cleaning my mouth with the rear of my hand. He was a similar conductor whod halted Damon and me simply outside Mystic Falls, and I saw doubt move quickly over his face. â€Å"Were in New Orleans, then?† I solicited, the flavor of Lavinias blood in the rear of my throat. The ginger-haired conductor gestured. â€Å"And the women? Theyre aware?† â€Å"Oh indeed, theyre aware,† I stated, not breaking my look as I slipped my ticket out of my pocket. â€Å"But they asked not to be upset. Furthermore, I ask not to be upset, as well. Youve never observed me. Youve never been by this compartment. Afterward, in the event that anybody asks, you state there may have been a few criminals who jumped on the train outside Richmond. They looked dubious. Association soldiers,† I imagined. â€Å"Union soldiers?† the conductor rehashed, unmistakably confounded. I moaned. Until I had convincing leveled out, Id need to turn to an increasingly lasting style of memory eradicating. Instantly I snatched the conductor by the neck and snapped it as effectively as though it were a sweet pea. At that point I tossed him into the compartment with Lavinia and shut the entryway behind me. â€Å"Yes, Union officers consistently ruin things, dont they?† I asked logically. At that point, whistling the entire way, I went to gather Damon from the gentlemens club vehicle. Section 6 Damon was drooped right where Id left him, an immaculate bourbon glass perspiring on the oak table before him. â€Å"Come on,† I said generally, yanking Damon up by the arm. The train was easing back, and surrounding us travelers were gathering their things and arranging behind a conductor who remained before the dark iron ways to the outside world. Be that as it may, since we were unhampered by assets and favored with quality, I realized our most solid option was to leave the train a similar way marry entered: by hopping off the rear of the rear. I needed us both to be a distant memory before anybody saw anything was out of order. â€Å"You look well, brother.† His tone was light, however the pallor of his skin and the purpling underneath his eyes parted with exactly how really drained and hungry he was. For a moment, I wished Id left some of Lavinia for him, yet immediately ignored the idea. I needed to take a firm hand. That was the means by which Father used to prepare the ponies. Denying them nourishment until they at long last quit yanking on the reins and submitted to being ridden. It was the equivalent with Damon. He should have been broken. â€Å"One of us needs to keep up our strength,† I told Damon, my back to him as I drove the route to the last vehicle of the train. The train was all the while crawling along, the wheels scratching against the iron lengths of track. We didnt have a lot of time. We mixed back through the dingy coal to the entryway, which I pulled open without any problem. â€Å"On three! One Two † I snatched his wrist and bounced. Both of our knees hit the hard earth underneath with a crash. â€Å"Always need to flaunt, dont you, brother?† Damon stated, recoiling. I saw his pants had been torn at the knees from the fall, and his hands were scarred with rock. I was immaculate, with the exception of a bind on my elbow. â€Å"You ought to have fed.† I shrugged. The whistle of the train screeched, and I took in the sights. We were on the edge of New Orleans, a clamoring city loaded up with smoke and a fragrance like a mix of margarine and kindling and cloudy water. It was far greater than Richmond, which had been the biggest city Id at any point known. Yet, there was something different, a feeling of risk that filled the air. I smiled. Here was a city we could vanish in. I started strolling toward town at the superhuman speed I still hadnt become accustomed to, Damon trailing behind me, his footfalls noisy and awkward, yet consistent. We advanced

In the U.S., there is an essential population of informal caregivers that devote a significant amount of time and resources to caring for older adults with impairments. However, due to the informal nature of these caregiver relationships, there is a lack of knowledge and understanding of this population. In â€Å"A National Profile of Family and Unpaid Caregivers Who Assist Older Adults with Health Care Activities (2016)†, Wolff and colleagues highlight the importance of understanding the responsibilities of caregivers and how this may affect their own health, as well as the need to identify the basic characteristics of informal caregivers. Therefore, the primary objective of this study by Wolff and colleagues (2016) was to characterize the common responsibilities of caregivers, their utilization of supportive services, as well as to identify the effects of caregiver-related responsibilities on their health. Ultimately, this information may inform future public health service s and health care systems to provide much needed support and resources to these caregivers. In order to address the study objectives, Wolff and colleagues (2015) developed multiple outcomes to characterize informal caregivers. What Really Makes Factories Flexible free essay sample

Introduction: In this literature, What really makes factories flexible? the writer brought out the topic for factory flexibility, which defines as a production  facility  organized  to  respond to customer orders quickly in order to provide  a  full  and varied range  of  operations  or  services, across many  product lines with very short  changeover times and may introduce new products of similar range fairly easy. For example, most modern  automobile plants  are designed as  flexible  factories to build various models. Having acknowledged the importance of flexibility, how would manufacturing managers in a broad array of industries find pathways to improve the process? What are the difficulties of defining flexibility of a plant and how do they measure flexibility in terms of plant productivity? What measurements are needed to show improvement of the process? The author performed a research in a study of sixty-one factories in North America that manufacture fine paper to find out the answer. We will write a custom essay sample on What Really Makes Factories Flexible? or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page essay writing service free Define the problem: Unlike most other industries in which different plants make different products, the paper industrys products are more comparable across plants since paper are produced by very similar process. There are a few characteristics for the paper industries to be the right candidate. In paper industry, the qualities of products by grades are straightforward numbers which can be able to be measured by the author. These numbers enabled the author to develop both the range of paper a plant could produce and how much time it needed for a plant to switch from making one kind of paper to making another. By using these numbers the author was be able to define the operational flexibility for manufacturing plants needed to measure and find the ways to improve the processes. Defining the problem is the first thing needed by each manager. What is flexibility? Managers are having hard times to define as the term may mean very different for different people. At plant level, it is about the ability to change over or adapt new system, however, specifying and characterizing this ability is not an easy task. As one manager may talk about the flexibility to produce the types of production from up and down depending on what the market needs; another manager may talks about the flexibility to change over from making one type of paper to another with less time and money. In the authors point of view, flexibility should be emphasized in determining by its competitive environment. The measurement of flexibility can be based on a) product range in different things as a plant can have the ability to produce a small number of products that are very different from one another b) mobility for a plant to change over from making one product to another and c) uniformity of performance as a flexible plant can perform comparably well to make any product within a specified range. Once managers have defined the different kinds of flexibility they are trying to develop, another set of issues had come up as how to measure the flexibility and improvement of flexibility. Also it is often unclear in which general features of a plant must be changed in order to make its operations flexible. The depth and wisdom of experience managers have to be carefully assessing their strategies to define what kind of flexibility they are looking for before embarking on a flexibility program, or otherwise the results can be disastrous. Implication and analysis to select best alternatives: By collecting production data, the author was able to measure the breadth of paper grades that each plant was capable of producing and the changeover time that each plant required to switch between grades. There were additional measurements of flexibility such as workforce by length of service, the level of computer integration (CIM), the change and break frequency, etc. Each plant may emphasize in a whole range of factors from different quality and types of flexibility based on the managers, so end up there are large differences across plants. One major issue covered in this literature is that the degree of computer integration (CIM) does not really help on plant flexibility by increasing range of products produced or improving change over time even though large money was invested in it. Managers often have difficulty justifying CIM projects on the basis of cost savings or quality improvements therefore justify them on basis of improved flexibility CIM will provide. In this case, only the engineers or a few trained employees understand how the system works; most of the plant operators are not trained to operate which create problems. Operators instead decide to perform manual-change over, which in a surprising findings the best manual change system operate much faster than computer. This result shows the serious problem from operators as they have no interest to adapt the change to operate CIM. It hit hard on the managers with thoughts being reluctant that they are doing something right, but actually they are wrong. Implement decision to change the system: For successful manager to figure out the issues of CIM before implementing it in a plant, they should consider building up skills for their operators. As the author denoted, â€Å"Plants become more flexible when managers stress to workers the importance of flexibility. For example, a plant that wants to excel at customizing products will need to develop the capabilities to carry out large range of jobs in the plant. Managers then need to determine what type of workforce or equipment (ex CIM) needs to enhance flexibility. After that managers need to figure out different ways to measure the type of flexibility sought and emphasize the importance of the measures to the employees. Trainings should be added in th e process to build up experienced workforce and eventually to see improvement in flexibility. For example, continuous learning problem such as operational excellence may help management team in different level to control and maintain a flexible manufacturing plant. Evaluate the outcome: By integrating the appropriate steps to a) defining the problem of flexibility, b) implication and analysis to select best alternatives and c) implement decision to change the system, the next step is to evaluate the outcome to see if there is any improvement or if not, further alterations will need to be made. Outcomes that need to be evaluated are not limited to employee training in different level. Employees training based on experience are critical for a manufacturing plant to increase flexibility. More experience workers are not willing to adapting the new systems such as CIM comparing to less experience workers who are more willing to change. Conclusion: A good manufacturing management team designs what is best way for its plant to run, and plants that are flexible in terms of mobility (in terms of change over time) and range (in terms of various productivity) tended to have a clear measures of what flexibility should be developed. Managers have to decide what benefits the plant, how the plant operate, what kind of flexibility they are looking for, select the right decision making tools such as CIM, training for the employees based on different levels of experience, analyzing the data and provide surveys for customers. Managers should provide people the support needed in order to achieve the goal for lower the cost, decreasing change over time, increasing throughput and eventually make more money. Manager should never put too much faith in depending on CIM to complete the tasks in ease. CIM provides critical advantages to improve factory flexibility only if it can be implemented in the right way to fit the system. CIM generally needs experienced operators to control so trainings are critical for employees in different level. CIM could only be one of the alternative tools for managers to use. The flexibility of a plant depends much more on people (manager, field-supervisors, engineers and operators) than on any technical factor (automation, CIM). Managers should never only embraced in CIM as the solution to the growing need to forge new capabilities, instead managers should put more faith in the day to day management of people. Extended Research: I read two other articles which were written within the last three years. It is obvious that both articles talk about how computer integration both software and hardware can help to improve process flow and flexibility of a plant. This is because a more mature CIM system has been established through studies from field experts and universities. In general, employees nowadays understand that continuous learning is the keys to maintain competitiveness in the job market. This doesn’t mean that managers’ job are easier to do, but flexibilities in all level from a plant, a team, or just individual are critical in order to maintain a competitive advantage. Reference: 1. JFK Conspiracy essays

JFK Conspiracy essays The assassination of our nations 35th president, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, is one of the most controversial and divisive government conspiracies in the narration of American history. There are an incredible amount of speculations and ideas brought up by both the American public and diagnostic investigators. So far none of these premises have had enough conclusive evidence to suit as being the real cause to the JFK assassination. However, of the couple dozen most widely considered speculations, the one that is most conclusive in its examination is the indictment against the United States Government and the Central Intelligence Agency for covering up and staging their homicide of President John F. Kennedy and their suppression of the truth from the American Public. The day of November 2nd 1963 and all the conspiracy surrounding it begins with the annunciation of Senator Kennedy as the President of The United States. In order to most completely understand this conspiracy, one needs to f irst look at the Presidents life and the events leading up to it and then the analytical evidence of the possible motives to his assassination (Marris, Preface). John F. Kennedy was the youngest president ever to be elected to office at the only the age of 42. After a lavish childhood, Kennedy moved to Boston in 1946 and ran for a seat in the House of Representatives. He won, but then again, in 1951 he was elected to the Senate using the famous slogan, The New Generation Offers a Leader (Spencer, 18-20). During his senatorship, JFK met, and later married, Jacqueline Lee Bouvier, a writer for The Times Herald of Washington. Mrs. Kennedy was from a family of wealthy aristocrats of French descent. They were married in 1953 and had two children named Caroline and John Junior. Kennedy was a democrat and was convincingly one of the most popular democrats during the time. Richard Nixon was Kennedys republican rival and was the vice presid...

Winter Olypmic Games - Snowboard Halfpipe Research Paper

Winter Olypmic Games - Snowboard Halfpipe - Research Paper Example in this text is directed towards revealing the concepts of science as applying in the sports, and goes into depth of describing each aspect’s role in them. It also brings in a close relative of snowboarding halfpipe, that is skiing, which is seen applying the very similar concept as snowboarding halfpipe, differing in only that owing to its use of double boards, its effectiveness in terms of speed and achieving height is better. The study in addition to the above highlights some of the most successful athletes in the sports, including Kelly Gallagher and Shaun white, with their experiences in the sport. Finally, there is the highlight of the potential dangers of the sport which include minimal control when one achieves high speed and height, and can result in major fractures or fatalities. â€Å"Snowboarding is a winter sport that involves descending a slope that is covered with snow while standing on a board attached to a riders feet, using a special boot set into a mounted binding†(Snowboarding†, 2014). Snowboarding was developed in the United States, which was inspired by surfing and skateboarding in the 1960’s by Sherman Poppen, the snowboards inventor. He designed a snowboard called a snurfer in 1965. To make it Poppen, bolted two skis together and attached a rope to help the rider keep balance and to steer. In 1979, a man named Jake Burton Carpenter began to make snowboards out of fiberglass. Moreover, he decided to add some bindings to help control the snowboard easier. In the 1980s, people started adding steel edges to the sides of the snowboard, resulting steadier snowboard appeared. Snowboarding is the leading trend in today’s world of winter sports. It not only requires athletes’ extraordinary skills, but accurate and precise judgments are essential as well. The snowboarding athletes make a separate twist, or flip, grabbing the snowboard and other extreme movements in the air, through controlling the direction and velocity. The height

Introduction to Microeconomics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 2

Introduction to Microeconomics - Essay Example Figure 1 shows the pattern of farm gate prices: In 2004-2005, UK still remained as the lowest farm gate priced dairy producer for the 7th consecutive year. Comparing prices, the UK has a 37% gap as compared to Italy who receive a milk price of 35.8 euros/100kg compared to UK at 25.9. The reasons that were deemed to have caused this low farm gate price are the industries poor selling systems, bad forward contracts, excess profits up the dairy food chain, too much spring milk and currency effect or the  £ / Euro relationship. However, even with the loss of farmers, the UK milk and dairy industry has grown gradually but steadily since 1998 and the total value of the market increased by 2.9% to  £7.23bn in 2002 (DEFRA, 2006b).Why then in spite of the loss of producers, is the industry thriving? A September 2005 report by the Milk Development Council revealed that there was a discrepancy between the profits received by sectors of the supply chain. That is, some of them are earning excessive profits at the expense of the others. The report showed that supermarket, retail and processor gross margins on dairy products have increased over the past 10 years. Farm gate prices were also higher on average during 2004 as compared to 2003 but this increase was minimal as can be seen by the figure below: The problem now becomes apparent. The farm gate prices being low, it is expected that local and international sales of the product would be high. This is because low production costs usually mean low sales price. However, because of the high margin imposed on the product by businessmen, the products total production costs becomes much larger leading to higher sales price. This translates to lower sales volume because there is an inverse relationship between price and demand. This unfair share of profits and the low farm gate are what caused Scottish dairy farmers to conduct a blockade over the countrys major milk

Chemical Reactions Essay Example for Free

Chemical Reactions Essay Introduction In this paper you learn about the reactions that occur between backing soda and lemon juice. We will also describe what is occurring with the molecules on a molecular level. Lastly we will explain what chemical bonds are formed and or broken when lemon juice and backing soda. Observations of the Reactants When most people hear baking soda they think of the bright orange box sitting in their pantry or refrigerator soaking up the foul odors that have come about from the onions or fish. Some may think of pancakes or baking a cake. Baking powder is a fine white substance with the consistency of powdered sugar. Baking soda is a chemical base. Another substance most people do not recognize as a chemical in their household is Lemon Juice. This is a liquid mixture of water and citric acid. Its color is mildly foggy and a pale yellow. Lemon juice is a chemical acid and when mixed with a base like baking soda creates a reaction. Reactions that occur Mixing lemon juice with baking soda gives you a chemical reaction. The lemon juice contains citric acid. The citric acid from the lemon juice will donate a hydrogen ion (H+) to the bicarbonate or baking soda (NaHCO3). When the bicarbonate is mixed into solution, the bicarbonate acts as a base and takes the H+ ion from the citric acid to form carbonic acid (H2CO3) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Whenever a chemical reaction produces gas, it will be highly favored due to its large increase in entropy associated with the gas formation. In this reaction, you will notice the solution bubbling and foaming due to the CO2 production. The reaction of lemon juice and baking soda is as follows: C6H8O7 + 3NaHCO3 Na3C6H5O7 + 3H2CO Essentially, one molecule of citric acid will react with three molecules of sodium bicarbonate. This will form one molecule of sodium citrate and three molecules of carbonic acid. It is a very exothermic chemical reaction. Molecular Level Baking soda or sodium bicarbonate is a salt while lemon juice is a citric acid. When combined, on a molecular basis, the acid in the lemon juice is able to lose a hydrogen (H+) ion while the sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) of the baking soda is able to gain an ion. Mixed in a solution, the NaHCO3 dissociates into a sodium (Na+) and bicarbonate (HCO3-) ion. The HCO3- then takes the H+ ion to form H2CO3 (carbonic acid). Bonds that formed and broken The bonds that are forming between the lemon juices and backing soda are polar covalent bonds. The bonds have an uneven electron share which is known as a dipole moment that makes them insoluble. Each the backing soda and the lemon juice have bonds that are broken. The bonds that are broken in the citric acid are when the H+ ions are taken away to form the H2CO3 and CO2. While this is happening the two molecules are sharing there atoms which is making then fight one another. So in return the baking soda does not naturalize the lemon juice like most acids and bases do. This is the violent bubbling reaction you see occur when the two are mixed. Conclusion Backing soda and lemon juice are two very few reactants that react the way they do. Normally a base and an acid turn neutral. This is not the case between these two chemicals. The molecules fight on another casing them to react violently resulting in the bubbling situation that is observer. As you have learned these two chemicals react in a way to form a gas called carbon dioxide. The color changed mildly to form a fogy white color. When it is compared on a pH level it is stronger than stomach acid. This experience has showed us that different reactants react in many different ways and that is why it is important to observe them many different items before make an assumption. Thomas Hobbes Philosophy Essay -- Thomas Hobbes Philosophy

Thomas Hobbes Thomas Hobbes was an English philosopher who lived from 1588-1679. He attended Oxford University where he studied classics. His occupation was a tutor, but he also traveled around Europe to meet with scientists and to study different forms of government. He became interested in why people allowed themselves to be ruled, and what would be the best form of government for England. Thomas Hobbes was the first great figure in modern moral philosophy. Hobbes had a pessimistic view of people; he believed humans were selfish creatures who would do anything to better their positions. He also thought that people could not be trusted to make decisions on their own, and a country needed an authority figure to provide direction and leadership. Therefore, Hobbes believed in an absolute monarchy - a government that gave all power to a king or queen. He also thought that people should obey their king, even if he is a tyrant. He said that because people were only interested in promoting their own self-interests, democracy would never work. In fact, he thought democracy was very dangerous. But even though he distrusted democracy, he believed that a diverse group of representatives presenting the problems of the common person would prevent a king from being unfair and cruel. Hobbes coined the phrase, "Voice of the people," meaning one person could be chosen to represent a group with similar views. In 1651, Thomas Hobbes wrote his famous work, "Leviathan" which put into...

Morality and Honesty Essay

The meaning of honesty is â€Å"truthfulness† Honesty is a great value which is recognized all over the world. A person is born with the quality of honesty but it is difficult to find a truly honest person. This â€Å"honesty† word is very much know to whole world but has less impact on the character main part of our society. The value of honesty is highest compliment for a person. An honest person can also be identified by his nature and behavior like sun. The sun is known to all by its light and energy. An honest man succeeds in life better than a dishonest man. He is trusted by the people, and respected for his moral character. A dishonest person may cheat some people some time, but not all the time. Today’s biggest gap in true sense is the honesty; which not strength properly in the young generation specially school student. It does not mean that; the taught is not in the schools but wan to draw the attention of the school teaching system. The school student must be impressed with honest practice rather than paying strong attention on the science subjects. This is one of the good values of our growing youngster kids and school student. In the future they will carry the nation on their feet. We all have to dictate the tremendous value of honesty to our kids from very beginning from their childhood. An honest man becomes morally strong and character is like a sharp sword made of stainless steel. Thus an honest man moves in the society freely like pure and sacred flower spreading sweet smell in all directions. But when a dishonest man is met on the road, people try to avoid his sight or company lest they should fall into his evil trap or get into some trouble for nothing. Today’s people forget the best policy, â€Å"honesty is the best policy†. One who remains honest all his life, honesty becomes his goodwill in the life time. It is honesty that leads him to reach the goal. He becomes fearless, straightforward, outspoken, and possesses clear conception of everything on earth; and hence he is capable of taking correct decision and giving faultless judgment in any matter. We have to realize the value of honesty otherwise social, economical balance will be lost. One day we answer our life before God. Thus his life becomes miserable.

Abby Kuhlman L.Liebl 10A Hour 4 Expository Essay 1 Nov. 2017 Crazy in Love The famous quote You can t be wise and in love at the same time, by Bob Dylan, applies to three of the main characters in William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream: Hermia, Helena, and Lysander. Reason and love are often at odds in real life, and this romantic comedy shows how these characters struggle to balance between the two. Hermia has a crazy determination to marry Lysander. Hermia is willing to go against her father s wishes just to marry the man of her dreams, and would even go as far as giving up her life. So will I grow, so live, so die, my lord, Ere I will my virgin patent up Unto his lordship, whose unwishà ¨d yoke My soul†¦show more content†¦226-243) Helena is saying that even though the majority of the town thinks she is as beautiful as Hermia, none of that matters to her. Helena realizes that love can make people blind, and she realizes that she is obsessing over him but still cannot help herself. Helena is in need of some more love towards herself and a little less towards Demetrius. Last but definitely not least, Lysander. Lysander is a young man who falls in love with Hermia, just like Demetrius has. The difference between Lysander and Demetrius, however, is that Hermia loves Lysander back. Therefore, hear me, Hermia.
